Four easy steps to follow to help you select dockplates and dockboards:
-
Determine Maximum Height Difference:
For the worst case, measure the height of the truck floor above or below the dock level (see diagram below).
-
Select Width:
As a general rule, add 18in / 45.7cm to overall width of your material handling equipment. Typical dockplate or dockboard widths for standard equipment are as follows:
2-wheel handtruck 36 in / 91 cm 4-wheel platform truck 48 in / 122 cm Pallet truck 48 in / 122 cm Forklift truck 60 in / 152 cm -
Establish Axle Load Capacity:
Calculate axle load capacity from TOTAL WEIGHT of material handling equipment and its maximum load carrying capacity, as follows:
2-wheel handtruck 100% of TOTAL WEIGHT 4-wheel platform truck 50% of TOTAL WEIGHT Hand Pallet truck 60% of TOTAL WEIGHT Powered Pallet truck 67% of TOTAL WEIGHT Counter-balanced forklift truck 90% of TOTAL WEIGHT -
